A trailer for the series’ third season has been released. After four years, Aaron McGruder‘s Black Jesus TV show is making its return on Adult Swim. The series wrapped up its last season back in 2015. The forthcoming third season of the show marks the absence of the late Charlie Murphy, who portrayed Victor “Vic” Hargrove throughout the show’s first and second seasons.

Corey Holcomb, a cast member on the show, spoke about the changes the show would be making following Murphy’s death in 2017, saying at the time: “They decided to bring Black Jesus back, so we’re getting ready to start filming again in September and that should be fun. It’s gonna be weird without Charlie Murphy on set. We’re gonna get this thing going without him, and I’m sure we’re still gonna make the show good, but it will be different not seeing him on set.”

The trailer for the upcoming third season of Black Jesus can be viewed below, and the season premieres September 20.

In related news, McGruder is also working on a reboot of his beloved Boondocks animated series. The reboot will be a re-imagining of the original, focused on “the battles of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules fictional Woodcrest County Maryland, with an iron fist.”

The reboot was announced a few months ago when Sony Pictures Animation shared its roster for new shows and films it’ll be releasing in 2020 and beyond.
